St Matthew's is part of the of the Scottish Episcopal Church in the Edinburgh Diocese and can be described as offering a 'traditional form of worship'.

Most of our congregation come from Roslin, surrounding Midlothian and Edinburgh areas.  We are an inclusive and welcoming group who are famously friendly and enjoy welcoming new people from far and wide, whether it is to join our congregation on a regular basis or visitors who choose to attend services when they visit the Chapel.

We have a small but dedicated team of Clergy and Laity who work together to ensure our congregation and our many visitors are welcomed and supported in their journey in faith.

Rev Gillian Hitchen, our new Priest in Charge joined us on 6 March 2024 from Englandshire. She is married to Mike, they have 3 children, 6 grandchildren and a hound called Pepsi. Gill is currently part way through a second Masters in Applied Theology at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. In her spare time she enjoys music, cooking, reading and word puzzles.

Harry Stoddart, Lay Reader, runs his high street business in Hawick during the week, and is married to Helen.  They have 3 sons and 4 grandchildren.  Harry's interests are theology, spirituality and prayer, history, sociology, film making, working dog training, baking and classic convertible cars.
